by Amy Q.

Working lives have become more stressful. More pressure is placed on employees on a daily basis as companies shuffle their staff to reduce their staff count without limiting the duties. This can result in you taking on too much and then still trying to juggle work and home life, finding time to spend with your children and loved ones.

Work overstrain is very common, affecting thousands of people each year and costing companies millions in sick days taken. The problem is you may not even realize you are suffering from work over strain and only when you notice a change in your behaviour or you lack of motivation and calling in sick just to avoid the stresses of the day, you realize that you have a problem and may need work overstrain counseling to help you overcome the stress and get back on track.

Some of these signs are:

Depression and negative thoughts about work.

This may sound obvious, but it can also take quite a white before you realise that you are thinking in this way. Work over strain counsellors may be able to assist you through talking to highlight stress areas and come up with relaxation techniques to help you manage the anxiety you are experiencing.

Emotional reactions to certain things in the work place

These may be things that never frustrated you before, something as simple as a colleague asking you for help on a project. Where you would ordinarily say yes, you may turn around and snap because you already have too much on your plate. Mood swings are a tell-tale sign that it’s time to seek the help of a work overstrain counsellor to help you manage and overcome the anxiety you have.

People suffering from work related anxiety often become withdrawn, at home and in the work place.

Friends and family will notice the signs sooner than the actual person as they stop going out, stop communicating and spend more time on their own. You will also experience a lack in motivation and everything you have to complete in your working day is a mission, rather than just a job you used to just get on with in the past.

Decreased creativity and innovation

You may find on a mental note you start having problems making decisions, you have problems with concentrations and you experience poor memory. These are also all signs that you may need the help of a work overstrain counsellor.

Fatigueness

A normally outgoing individual becomes withdrawn and less interactive, Working long hours, downturn in performance, they often look tired and pale, and tend to catch colds and flu regularly.

Conclusion

This can be addressed with a few simple measures. Here are a few pointers for helping your employees - and you - avoid the overstain trap:

Endorse time off. Make sure you’re not only providing but also endorsing the use of personal/vacation time. You should be cultivating a culture in which periodic time away from work is both respected and encouraged. Model this for your employees by taking your own vacation time at appropriate intervals.
