7 Golden Rules to Get the Job You Love
by Amy Q.

Each one of us holds unique strengths in a particular area of specialization, and there are plenty of career fields that anyone can study for or venture in. However, despite the availability of many job opportunities in the market, the majority of people end up training on careers that they do not have passion in. Moreover, when on the job pressure piles up, they end up wishing to change their jobs, an endeavor that might be quite frustrating. It should be clear to you if you do something you love each day, you will never feel like you are working.

Here are primary ways of identifying and sticking to the job you love:

Find out where your passion lies

As much as you might not have a clear vision of how your career should be, it is possible that you have specified interest in some things. Whether visible to you or not, you need to follow your curiosity and seek to uncover those interests. It’s important to note that your motivations are entirely different from others and you need to feed your creativity into the field. Now that’s a perfect way to start your journey towards the career you shall enjoy for a lifetime. Consulting a career expert can be a perfect way to go when deciding on this aspect.

Separate your hobbies from a profitable passion

You might be an excellent artist or blogger who loves doing the activity when you are free from work. That means the business does not generate income as much as you are investing time in it. Therefore, it’s crucial to ask yourself whether you can benefit from turning your hobby into a profitable career. In the event of transforming your hobby to a career, be sure to remember the following:

  • What you love to do will now turn into a serious commitment
  • You need to add extra skills on your passion for satisfying the target market
  • You have to precisely determine how, where and when to serve your clients

If your career is frustrating, quit as fast as Possible

Some people hate their jobs much and would love to move to other fields yet they continue showing up to work each day. Yes, you might not have figured out what you want with your life, but that’s no excuse. Sitting and doing nothing about it makes it even worse. If you can quit early enough, it will give you the space to figure out fast what to go for next. For instance, if you are pursuing a career in English literature but are passionate about computer science or fine art, then it would be better if you shift to something that’s less frustrating and generates reasonable income.

Never make money your primary consideration

If you are looking for a career that will give you a lifetime enjoyment, it’s better you treat financial matters as secondary. Ideally, a majority of people who make money their primary concern end up pursuing careers that are frustrating. For instance, if you go for neuroscience or film career because they pay more and you are passionate about psychology or business management, then you are likely to end on a sad note. In essence, pursuing your curiosity will:

  • Get you into a position of power
  • Put you in a situation where you make money on your terms
  • Make you struggle less regarding keeping up with work demands

Don’t look for jobs, look for people

Applying for different jobs cannot give you a career that will make you happy for the rest of your life. Rather, you need to connect with people in your area of expertise to direct you to new opportunities. That does not mean you attend major networking events. It’s all about identifying and meeting with people who are where you want to be so that you can get started on a career path that’s clear.

Move away from business thinking

Many people pursue a career because they love it or probably find it more lucrative. However, if you focus on what the market or clients will benefit from your career, then you might just get a perfect job for yourself. When you do something that enriches or empowers your audience, the satisfaction in them will turn into your satisfaction, something that will make you love your career even more.

Start pursuing your passion even without a business plan

Sticking to doing what you enjoy even when you have not monetized it is the best way to go. It’s important to test how it feels like to do what you love, create a business network and use feedback from the same to refine your business ideas. Getting positive feedback will mainly fuel your creativity and you shall soon end up in a career you love most.

If you are looking forward to doing a job or pursuing a career you love, it’s important that you figure out earlier what your interests are. Always avoid pursuing different careers at once or going into one primarily because of money. The key to a happy career is finding something you perfectly relate with, and that gives you the motivation to wake up the next morning to do it. So always remember; never look for jobs but rather look for people who can lead you to your desired career.
